The combat photographer, Lt. Jimmy Halloran was killed in the dramatic charge down the steep embankment by a suprize enemy mortar attack along with 15 other American commandos. But the invaders would not be able to regain their foothold on American soil and by the next morning all but a few stragglers had surrendered. The Invasion averted, the enemy captured after more than two thirds of their numbers died in the terrible battle.
